Those three years are gonna be tough, though.

Yep. Though mostly because there's about to be a general election here and I'll be busy...

The Wapsi character index now covers from start, to end 2011, all 2014 to present: 2682 pages tagged, 930 tags.

512 untagged pages to go.

Something occurring just now...

Shouldn't this thread be in General Discussion, not Daily? Just a thought...

Like the (pinned) Cast of Characters and Chronology topics hereabouts, I dare say.

If this thread had been in General Discussion, I never would've known the index exists, so I'm glad it's here. And considering that the Index exists largely to help facilitate the discussion of the daily pages by giving a quick reference to previous strips, it is most useful here, even if it doesn't "belong" here.

I agree with Thor on this one, it may not "technically belong" here, but this is where it is most useful.

+1 as this index is clearly an adjunct to the daily structure of the strip.

All those in favor of sticky-ing this thread?

(Can we even do that? Or do the admins and mods decide on their own and not pay attention to sticky requests?)

Seems like a good idea to me! I'd suggest sending a polite PM to Bookworm, the senior admin hereabouts, and ask that the idea be conidered.

Is that a suggestion to me or to Louis? Because out of the three of us (you Dave, Louis, and me), I think I'm the least qualified to ask a favor from an admin.

I can send him a PM and ask him to consider it...

EDIT: done.

Just trying to stay polite. The Internet is not a good place to toe lines. He'd probably pay more attention to you, anyway, Mr. 3000 posts and counting.

Anyway, this index is definitely a big resource for the daily threads. Much like the Chronology. Maybe we could merge this with Jwhouk's Cast of Characters. That's already been stickied. And the Index is, in a way, the next step from a list of characters. Maybe Jwhouk and Louis could collaborate or something.

I never knew one had to "qualify" to ask a favor from the admins...

I also support the idea of making it a sticky, in this daily discussion forum.

Wow, already done. Dang, Bookworm doesn't dilly-dally.

I do not dilly dally, nor do I shilly shally.

In any case, yes, I do read my emails (I thought I already posted this, but I guess I missed).

Just about any of the moderators could have done this, but I do recommend that the Sun King (le Roi-Soleil) and jwhouk get together and work out what should be the 'final' list of characters.

The Badger has spoken.

I wonder which moderators can't sticky-fy a thread? Am I missing something here? *shrug* Maybe I'm overthinking.

Thanks, Bookworm, for making this thread stick! ^_^

We won't know the "final" cast of characters until Pablo stops writing the strip. :)

The Omnibus is constantly changing and adding new characters, places, and storylines to its pages. That is the bane of any work that indexes a serial story that is (conservatively) on its 12th volume.

Thanks for the various kind words and support, and for the pinning.

Just completed tagging 2012, now on line — only 2013, 255 pages, to do…

I would hazard a guess that the implication is for us to have a more common approach to naming/tagging to make cross-referencing a bit easier between the brief index tags/descriptions and the in-depth resource of the Omnibus.

When I have finished the tagging pass I'll (eventually) look at my tag descriptions with an eye to including the more formal naming of the relevant Omnibus entries. A clickable link to the Omnibus entries would be great to add to the index, but I don't know if there is a way to link into a .pdf on a sharing site — anyone?
