Shelly definitely knows what to say to light a fire under Monica's ass!
What happens in the lab needs to stay in the lab... because it's such a bloody drag to have to rebuild civilization all over again.

I don't think we have ever seen Phix do a facepalm before...

I was wondering which one that was, Shelly or her Mom. And I am ashamed it took me more than one reading to figure out who was being referred to in the last sentence, strictly because we are dealing with a fae as a character in this story...

If I remember correctly, isn't Shelly arachnophobic?

Shelly sure made it sound like Calista had 'kicked the dog' and 'taken a high dive'. Wonder if Monica is going to:
- Race to the bottom to save Calista, then find out she stopped 117.
- Poit! Calista into her hand and demand to know what she did to her dog.
- Chase Calista to level 117. Somehow I suspect Monica will not arrive out of breath, her exercize issues are only in her head now.
- any more ideas ... ?

I haven't read all the comments for the past few days so I don't know if anyone's said this yet, but ... Monica has a dog in this fight now. It had to be done. I suppose Phix can query the Library system to find out where Calista & Co. are going, allowing Monica take the more conventional, and quicker, transport system to that location.
Count on Shelly when foot absolutely positively must meet mouth. Still, someone had to tell Monica about it since it involved Dietzel.
EDIT: Oh, I get it now. I thought Shelly was talking about Calista in the last frame. It's Monica. So then, how will she know where Calista went? Course I'm also wondering how she will go down that many stories on the spider silk in the first place. It can't be THAT long.
It aint easy being Phix. Holding it all together like she does. Especially when she's surrounded by newbie demi-gods and blabby relatives blurting ill-considered narratives. Then there's Nudge. It's a wonder she doesn't just sock the daylights out of the next being she comes across ... oh wait ...

Re: Figure It Out 2014-09-25
The last part of Shelly's comment can be confusing as Cricket is a Fae, which are considered elf's. We do forget that Shelly has consistently refereed to to Monica as an Elf. The Pixie with the rack. So Monica heard Shelly and took off to SAVE Cricket assuming a possible suicide attempt. Thus completely missing the spider and web swinging information.
Good Job Shellly!!!! Someone always should be ready to add to the confusion and insanity going on at the worst possible moment. We now know one of her major roles in the Wapsiverse.

Ambush questions are fun. Watching the mental impact of them as they distort, or crumble, opinions based on faulty logic.

retractable or not, when your 'fingers' have claws capable of ripping off someone's face, doing a facepalm is not recommendedDave wrote:I don't think we have ever seen Phix do a facepalm before...

Anyone want to take bets on what's going to happen when our favorite pocket elf goes barreling over the atrium ledge and breaks the strand of spider silk that Cricket is hanging on?
Re: Figure It Out 2014-09-25
You do remember correctly. It may apply only nearby spiders, though... those close enough to crawl on her.DilyV wrote:If I remember correctly, isn't Shelly arachnophobic?
Yup. The honor of the Forum must be maintained.KnightDelight wrote:I haven't read all the comments for the past few days so I don't know if anyone's said this yet, but ... Monica has a dog in this fight now. It had to be done.
It probably also calls for at least a small offering to the Pun Jar.
We've seen that Monica's nose can shift to a distinctly cat-like configuration when she goes through a full Jaguar Girl transformation (e.g. when she resurrected in the Library after Phix ripped her face off). Possibly, in Jaguar Girl form, she also acquires a hunting cat's sense of smell, and other tracking abilities? If so, then the familiar scent trace of pizza-infused dog would probably be all she needs. So then, how will she know where Calista went?
I have no idea whether jumping spiders such as Squee appears to be, are capable of ballooning.ActionKermit wrote:Anyone want to take bets on what's going to happen when our favorite pocket elf goes barreling over the atrium ledge and breaks the strand of spider silk that Cricket is hanging on?
Can Fae fly at all? We know that Cricket can leap like a grasshopper, and land safely, but leaping requires something to leap from/against, and there may be limits to how far she can fall (and how much weight she cn be carrying) and still absorb the landing-shock safely. Ending up with a payload of mashed dog al blut would not be good.
Re: Figure It Out 2014-09-25
do remember spider silk is very strong, and in the library, even more so...

Re: Figure It Out 2014-09-25
Scariness factor aside, I'm not too worried about what will happen to Calista if she goes into freefall. If we assume she has a loaded mass approximately equal to a guinea pig (0.73 kg/1.6 lbs), her terminal velocity under 1G of acceleration in an atmosphere similar to Earth's is only (37 kph/23 miles per hour). By contrast, a human of average mass has a terminal velocity of (201.6kph/125.3 miles per hour), which means that M will probably instinctively overestimate the seriousness of Cricket's danger if she falls from an arbitrary height. The rule of thumb is that if you throw various animals down a mineshaft, an insect will bounce, a cat will break a few legs, a human will die, and a cow will splash. Given that Fae are paranormally resilient by all accounts, and that Dietzel and Squee are both bug-sized at the moment, they'd probably all walk away from a hard landing none the worse for wear (which may explain why Calista doesn't look afraid at the prospect of descending 200 stories by sliding down a piece of spider silk). Monica might actually end up doing more damage by trying to save them than if she just let them drop.
If Paul happens to read this (and finds this sort of math amusing), do you have any input as to Calista's mass? It looks like she interacts normally with the world when she glamors herself to human size, so I can't tell if she changes mass when she changes size.
