What? Beetle was a POD PERSON?... I don't get your reference, I'm sorta familiar with the comic from when I was growing up, it was in the comics section of the paper, but I'm utterly clueless as to what you mean here... care to elucidate?

When Castela falls apart, she really falls apart, doesn't she?

I've figured out what kind of plant Castela is! She's obviously a... tumbleweed. *ba-dump-TSH!*

So Castela's "skin" isn't wavy or scaly. That is Paul's way of drawing tightly packed vines. Either that or she is a living angry thought bubble.

After a fall like that I'll bet she's bushed.

Have we found the root of the problem?

String theory in practice. I wonder how she talks like that with no lungs and all? Vibrating strings I guess. Coming unwound like that would be unnerving. She doesn't seem to be a frayed at least. OTOH she does appear to be a bundle of nerves.

She doesn't even feel like a sap. But I bet Kath will now hedge her bets & strictly enforce the "No running down stairs" rule, and ensure they have extra time to get ready before they leaf.

Oh, in a week or so, Paul will get around to showing us Monica and Jet (possibly with Shelly by their side) fighting off hordes of apos who think Tina has violated the terms of her probation...

Jet has made a Flaming Sword of Protective Flamingness™ out of her hatred for the Tar ... or perhaps she's discovered that she's discovered that she has Magical Girl powers, and she attacks with the "Pretty Cosmic Crystal Rainbow Overhead Smash!"*.

Monica is charging amongst them in full Jaguar Girl mode, regenerating and burning them with the astral flame every time they kill her.

Shelly is confusing them - what's a sphinx doing fighting to protect demons? - and Connie is scaring the poo out of them, just by being there.

Phix and Eurayle are sitting by, making bets, sharing a bag of popcorn, waiting for the Proper Moment To 'Splain It To All of Them...

...and the Captain's out cold on the wheelhouse floor.

That was my first thought, yeah. I don't think the entire process of Beetle becoming misshapen is ever really shown, but obviously he can reconstruct himself, too.

And Castela is not a Pod Person, she is plainly Very Much Herself.

I bet she strictly enforces the 'no running with scissors' rule, though! Unless, of course, she hits a growth spurt and starts growing like a weed....
