Hmmm. She has eyelids for the central eyes, and can cry with them...
Poor thing. She's holding it together, but the stress must be brutal.

One wonders where she thought she might end up.

I think she honestly didn't know... and that's part of why she was so scared. Her comments in the last few strip-minutes suggest that she was afraid that there was no place at all for her in the world... she's unique, and doesn't fit any of the acknowledged categories. Losing her form, her home, and her only close friend... and facing a world where there's literally no one else like her, and nowhere she could count on finding safe shelter...Gyrrakavian wrote:One wonders where she thought she might end up.
... no wonder she was scared to death.
This is a big stretch for Monica - good for her! I think maybe she's taken guidance from Kath's fine example.
(Oh, and I'm guessing that "the word for this" is the one which is bowdlerized as "FUBAR" or "Charlie Foxtrot"... and that Kath didn't bother to use any of the polite terms )

Catching flies in Tiajuana? I dunno, I'm sure there are paranormal jails for paras that can't keep the secrets.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Digit gets to be fully recognized as a full person!
Also, totally called the Monica-as-a-mom scenario!

I don't get Monica's blush and words in panel one. And I wonder if Kath suggested Monica become Digit's guardian, or if M is winging that part on her own?

Given Katherine as a reference, she possibly could have wound up on a board with a pin through her chest holding here there...Gyrrakavian wrote:One wonders where she thought she might end up.

I think it's the same answer to both. I think Monica had already decided that she wanted to foster Digit... that this was how she was going to keep the promise she had just made, to keep Digit safe. Her blush and words were from her excitement over her decision and that she was about to make it real.eee wrote:I don't get Monica's blush and words in panel one. I think Kath independently came to the same conclusion... that Monica was the right person, in the right place, at the right time. She suggested this to M, and M immediately agreed.
And then M had the grace to ask Digit if this was OK, rather than just telling her how it was going to be.
Big props to M for the compassion she's been showing here.

Methinks Digit was hurting mightily at the prospect of losing Dietzel... or at Dietzel losing her. I mean, she had to be wondering who would keep him company and look after him.
You know that light at the end of the tunnel?
Yeah... it's a bullet. Sorry.
Yeah... it's a bullet. Sorry.

Methinks Dietzel is no longer Monica's dog... as if he ever was.

One thing this page says to me is that calling Katherine was Cricket's idea, not Monica's.
And it makes sense. If Cricket has a magic-related problem that needs adult intervention, whom would she turn to? I don't get the feeling that she thinks much of her parents' judgment. Monica's her mentor - but in this case, Monica is the one who needs the help. Her friend Atsali's mom, who is doing a pretty good job of raising two paras either one of whom vastly out-powers her, would be a quite plausible next choice.
On the other hand, whom would Monica turn to? Her closest expert on fae magic is... Cricket, already on hand. Other than that, her para issues have mostly required power, not so much finesse... and Katherine is perhaps the least powerful para we've encountered. (In fact, she's only formally a para due to her peculiar origin; aside from that, as far as I can recall she's entirely human.) Monica would probably turn to Shelley or Phix or one of the Golem Girls.
