Fanfic Index Thread
Sgt Howard made this lovely list, I turned it into links, then I decided it belongs over here...
EDIT... I originally reposted the aforementioned list here, but jwhouk put it into a better format before I got back to it. So, go to this post for the reasonably-current list.

Re: Fanfic Index Thread
I am currently limited to using my old, arthritic, and decrepit iPhone 4, so I can't do the edits now, but when I get back to my iPad, I'll try to organize it chronologically.
I love the idea... We have enough output to justify a need for a centralized and organized index hub.

This is really a great idea, guys - thanks. The amount of engaging writing that you all have done is very impressive indeed!GlytchMeister wrote:I am currently limited to using my old, arthritic, and decrepit iPhone 4, so I can't do the edits now, but when I get back to my iPad, I'll try to organize it chronologically.

I wonder, though:
- Chronologically by position within the Wapsi timeline?
- Chronologically by the date the first chapter was posted here?
- Chronologically by the date it was completed (if it was)?
- Chronologically by the birthdate of the author ("Age before beauty")? If so, how to handle multi-author writings (which is more than not, at this point)
- Chronologically by the color of the lead character's name?
Re: Fanfic Index Thread
My impression is that Sarge mostly organized his list chronologically within the Wapsiverse timeline - that is, for contemporary stuff. (Of course, that is also mostly the way we've been WRITING it.) The stuff well away from the current time seems to be shoved in according to some other standard.
I think that's a pretty sensible way of organizing it, since possibly-all of the fanfics fit together in a single version of the universe. Might move the many-year flashbacks and flashforwards to a separate list, maybe with suggestions in the main list of when is best to step out and read them. And then of course if we have two (or more) mutually-incompatible timelines they should be kept separate in such an organizational scheme.
If we had something like the TwoKinds fanfic collection - where very few of the fanfics are set in the canonical setting, or even universe, and fanfics by different authors mostly don't relate to each other - then I'd go with sorting by author and then by start date.

Re: Fanfic Index Thread
When I was turning Sarge's list into links, I went through every thread in the fan-art forum. The (few) threads that aren't in the list, I looked at the contents of and saw that at least the first page wasn't fanfic.
I'm seriously thinking on breaking the list into separate lines and numbering them. Makes it easier to see what's in the list and refer to specific positions.

Fixed. And if that's the only error I made & didn't catch...(the Parts of the Family link was wrong)
Oh, and Joe, you say that's the list "more or less in order". Please tell us what order they are supposed to be in - such as "by start date" or "in-universe chronology" or...

Re: Fanfic Index Thread
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I had been getting so lost trying to follow the various stories, I had been considering a deep trawl just to make the index you've already done, so -- THANK YOU!
Now I can sort out what I've missed and get back to reading them....
P.S. - Thank you!

Re: Fanfic Index Thread
Glad to have you back as a reader!
It seems you folks have beaten me to the punch as far as organizing it all... Though I'm a little confused as to why 150 years ago and 16 years from now are in the middle and not at either end of the list...

The later ones in the list are not quite completed, in some cases.

Reunion (final title for PIllsbury +1) is yet another one of our perpetual stories...spawned at least two others, so far.

Yanno how some people have Angels/Devils for a conscience? I have a Dark Elf ShadowKnight and a Half Elf Ranger for mine. The really bad part is when they agree on something.

Ok, Reunion created a need for a time jump, and that jump made a year-long gap. I filled in Glytch's and John's gaps with Dark Knowledge and a chunk of Purpose. Dinky also filled in the gap for the elves with Training Exercises, which also introduced Grumpy Prroul and Muttery Quichon.
That's three right there.
Then there is Paddock Name. And TGTBatUP.
A Stable Relationship also fits in here somewhere. I have been wondering just how integrated Warrl wants his story to be.
So that's 6.
Then there's BUaBS, Redemption of Arianna and Stainless Steel Angel. 9. And then there's the Fashion thing, bringing the count up to 10.
Tadaa.

It will fit in. Right now I'm having a hard time coming up with good complications. I may do some larger time-skips. But I also have a bit of research to do (I don't know what the life and schedule of a first-year med-school student is like) and I found a consistency problem I have to decide on the best way to deal with.GlytchMeister wrote:A Stable Relationship also fits in here somewhere. Re: Fanfic Index Thread
On the CRFH forum, the fanfic index was stickied.
Maritza's reaction was "Dear god, how many of them are there?!"
And they weren't even finished indexing yet!
