Re: More Stuff

bedbugs are evolved from bat bugs. Apparently when some of our ancestors realized caves could work for homes, over the generations, some bat bugs went from 'can feed on others, but _must_ have bat blood to reproduce', to 'can live on other mammals, but prefer humans'. So not so much birds, but bats....

DosBOX. It's built to run DOS games in newer versions of windows, but it'll run a lot of other programs as well.

Re: More Stuff

Yup - DE can absorb an enormous amount of water - It's a desiccant, basically. So you need to have low relative humidity while you have it out. 118 degrees kills bedbugs, but it can take up to 122 degrees to kill the eggs. The best description of how DE works is that it gets caught in the crevices o...

Some phones are good at it, others aren't. If you're on Verizon, you're basically screwed. They overload their phones with trash apps, then are often impossible to root.

Re: More Stuff

Friggin' hell... bed bugs... I picked up a gallon of the spray today, and while it says every two weeks until they're gone, I'm gonna say every week until two weeks after we stop seeing any during inspections. I'm glad I was finally gonna replace my mattress, too. We got it back in '08 or so. Food ...

This post alone has me now with five additional tabs open, awaiting further scrutiny...) Only five tabs? I regularly have two separate windows open, with anywhere between five and fifteen tabs open at a time in each... Sometimes more... I even use an extension which keeps track of open tabs, and ca...

Re: More Stuff

Don't blame Boca. That's a habit that goes all the way back to Madman Muntz (look him up on Google). He used to start cutting components off of boards until the item stopped working, then said something like "I guess we'd better put that back." Antec does it, motherboard manufacturers do ...

Re: A Steal at $28K

BTW, my smartphone is a $20 Android 4.4 that I bought when I drowned the old slider phone just two months before it went obsolete anyhow. It's easier to text on than the slider. I still have a slider, and I've been debating on pulling the trigger on a Cosmo Communicator. Mine is a Samsung...

Re: Schtupid Email Scams

Virustotal is a legitimate site. Originally independent, it's now owned by Google. It still works fine - upload a file you're suspicious about, and it runs it against 30+ AV utilities. xHamster is a video porn site. As porn sites go, it's actually quite legitimate, and one of the few I've trolled lo...

Re: A Steal at $28K

I'll bet it had something to do with a new president or other high end management change... btw- I first joy-rid my first ride in a parking lot & it was an old air-cooled VW bus. That said, I'm still thinking of getting the successor; a Vanagon and w/ the Diesel bell-housing in there you can st...

Re: More Stuff

And the Boca combination sound card/modem was a nightmare. {Boca was a company started by former IBM engineers - the same team who had been responsible for the PCjr...} I had my own nightmare with a Boca Ethernet card, years ago. I chose it because it used a very good Ethernet chip (AMD PCNet) whic...

Um.. Query and Very _do_ rhyme, unless you're from Glasgow or a Geordie. I've always heard it as "kwee-ry" (which doesn't theme with "veh-ry"). I'm a Philadelphian by birth, a Rochesterian (upstate New York) during college, and a Californian thereafter. https://www.macmillandict...

Re: A Steal at $28K

Hot rods are an art form in and of themselves. In the 40s/50s/60s engine swaps and suspension upgrades were common, though there was subset of hot rod culture that specialised in getting max performance out of cars' original Ford flathead engines {which Ford didn't discontinue until some time in th...

Look up "West, Texas" explosion. Which was finally determined to be arson, and if they catch the person that set it off, they're probably looking at one of the fastest tracked death sentences in recent Texas history.

Even if you use the vacuum, you'll probably end up using the leaf blower. There are too many tiny nooks and crannies that can hold bits and bobs of it that you can't get into with a vacuum or broom. When I clean customers machines, I gave up on vacuums years ago. I take them outside and use a shop v...

The key is dispersion, ignition point, and dryness. If it's moist, it won't tend to ignite like that. If it's too dispersed, it won't detonate. If there's no flame around, it won't ignite. As for the toxicity of the wood? Please, don't panic like that. I do woodwork as a hobby, when I can, and I've ...

327/350 auto sounds like a complete engine and drivetrain replacement, yes.

As for the potential for damage? Only if you hit someone, and they're likely to be the one damaged.

What i find interesting is that those are not restored cars. They're upgraded.

Disc brakes, for example. They'd still be nice looking, but not as dangerous on the road :)
