Re: Hearts and Hooves Day (a.k.a. Valentine's)
EDITED:Valentine's in Texas Brilliant!! (And might I say I'd be willing to actually celebrate the "holiday" if it meant I got that from my husband...*is VERY Texan*) Ummm... Julie... that is not a really good idea. Not at all. Not unless there is something you haven't told us. That partic...

I'm pleased to see Katherine taking relative control of the situation. Yes she is and it is a good sign. This is an excellent example of putting the cart before the force. That's all you can do when you're stuck with an adolescent Siren as a companion. With luck, Atsali will learn from this experie...

Old DuPont 'self-help' materials from a simpler time: Nice! I'll bet a fair bit of that is probably still applicable today: stump removal, boulder destruction, creation and dredging of cattle-watering ponds, cracking bedrock to install pilings for outbuildings, and so forth. "How to make holes...

Interestingly enough, most if not all of what we see in the comic is quite possibly not nitroglycerin-based : Aha! Thank you - I had entirely missed the implication of the trade term "Extra" on the boxes in the mine. That does render a lot of our previous discussion moot. One of the reaso...

Not an interesting day. Nightmares. The only way to dispose of something like this is buffer it in place and blow it. For that they would need approval up the chain. How long would that take? Meanwhile they get to sit there praying that nothing happens. Yup... "interesting" in the sense o...

Sorry but there is no nitro in TNT. It is a different compound entirely. They're different chemically, but are fairly close "cousins". TNT is tri-nitro-toluene. "Nitro" is tri-nitro-glycerine. EGDN (a related explosive) is ethylene glycol dinitrate (or di-nitro-glycol if you pre...

Does anyone know if old dynamite has an acid smell to it??? Nitroglycerin is created by treating glycerol with nitric acid, so I would assume yes. After the nitration process, nitoglycerine and nitrocellulose and similar nitrated materials are repeatedly washed in solutions (e.g. sodium bicarbonate...

Katherine: Oh, my god, I'm in a cartoon! Yep, and it's a Roadrunner cartoon. Nudge will have to appear soon, reprising her famous role as Coyote.... 8-) Soon to cross over into Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Run away!! RUN AWAY!!! Edit: and, that's certainly sufficient for a "Yup!" answ...

Somebody set us up the pun. Whoa wait, where did THIS come from? Not in the illustrations, nor Paul's DA gallery. Not even his blog! It's a print Paul started offering for sale this week. I see it and the Happy Nudge print, on the main site page, February 6 (down under the Facebook comments for the...

I visited the cliff dwellings at Bandelier National Park in New Mexico back in '98, great place to visit. Thumbs-up to that! The Frey trail from the Juniper camping area is a great way to see the core of the park if you're up for a hike of about a mile and a half each way (this includes some cliff-...

Have you noticed that every decision Atsali makes is so counter to logic it isn't even funny? When is Katherine, as the only responsible adult here, going to put her foot down and say, Hold up there hoss? Oh, Atsali's actions are all perfectly logical. Unfortunately it's a logic operating on the ax...

So, just how bad will be the consequences of dropping a hot, flaming oil-filled lamp, in a deep underground mine filled with acidic runoff, possible pockets of methane, wooden supports, and perhaps no other source of light?

I'd think that a straight-up God's Blessing (Irish coffee), made with primo beans roasted to your personal preference, would be the next step. Sweetening, cream, whipped cream, etc. are all optional and to-taste.

I like snakes (I'm aware that this makes me weird in many people's opinions). I can't say I've smelled a nest of them though, so that little tidbit is good to know. :) On several occasions I had the pleasure of wandering around the stacks and shelves of A Change Of Hobbit in Santa Monica CA, checki...

Re: Should Be 2013-02-07
All in all, I'd say that Katherine is taking things quite well. She didn't freak out when picked up and flown (looked scared at first but didn't panic) and was pretty cool when they landed, she didn't freeze at the sight of a minotaur, and she's being very practical about their situation down in the...

I'm just thinking that when they come out of the "entrance", they're going to find McBride and Pratt standing there. And Brandi, who will admonish Kat. A meet-up like that does seem likely at some point (the "convergence of plot threads" protocol) but I rather suspect it will ha...
