Re: Bad Jokes II

Anyone ever heard of the whirlwind romance between the Chemist who specialized in pigmentation and the daughter of the textile magnate?

Apparently, she was simply to dye for.

Re: Oh, Momma, am I here all alone?

I'm done with the entire movie entertainment industry. The sheer number of facepalms has reached a point where it can no longer be stored in a LONGINT variable.

Re: Photobucket Hotlink Fix

... or just use Imgur.com instead and not give Photobucket any more traffic? Seriously, that's got to be one of the stupidest 'cut your own nose to spite your face' sort of responses I've seen out of a company in recent years (and that includes some of the crap EA has done since it reorganized aroun...

Re: Werewolves vs Vampires

The original vampires, or werewolves for that matter, were not 'sexy'. That didn't really make an appearance until Bram Stoker came onto the scene. Before then, we had flicks like 'Nosferatu' in which the vampire was by no means attractive, and they went to great lengths to keep it from being that w...

Which one? Most of the hardbacks can qualify as 'tome', and a good chunk of 'em have the CD's.

Re: More Stuff

the only time you have to go command line, in my experience, is when you are installing programs from a PPA. And even then, I *think* the software manager can pull from PPA's to give you a GUI to do it instead, but I've always felt the command line was faster. Even adding a PPA can be done from the ...

Yay! Some good info. What Dave was saying about " it really isn't intended as a distro on which you would then install other programs or packages." Yeah - that. It's got like 10 different text editors and all sorts of versions of the same thing, but trying to install, say GIMP in native L...

Re: In another universe 2018-04-10

The Resonance Cascade was the physics version of 'we spent so much time trying to see if we could that we forgot to stop and ask if we should'. In effect, they penetrated dimensional barriers and enabled aliens to invade through it, ultimately ending in HL2 with an alien-controlled puppet/apologist ...

Alternately, it's a vengeful ghost who has sucked her into its own time/space bubble and is screwing with her to convince her that she's the ghost so the spirit can move on to wherever? Or just screwing with her because if it's dead, so should everyone else?

The problem is that I already bank with a credit union. What's going on is that the company that operates that little kiosk in our break room is based in Michigan, and apparently there's been a lot of fraud there, so they block everything from there, and apparently whoever wrote the program that ma...

Re: More Stuff

And WW II was fought less than two decades after WW I, all the WW I veterans (who survived) were still alive and still more than aware. In fact, that's what permitted Hitler to expand so rapidly, The UK and most of Europe was so war-weary from the first world war that they didn't want another major...

Re: More Stuff

I said "wars happen". Not "wasrs used to happen". I was referring to WW One and Two, Korea {which was sort of a continuation of WW2}, Viet Nam, etc. - wars in the modern era, where the potential cannon fodder has some say in the process. It's not a hard-and-fast rule, but the fe...

Re: Anyone Want Some Grapefruit?

Optimum knife range is the same as optimum handgun range. Who told you such a silly thing? Optimum knife range is from 'in a grapple' to around five or ten feet. Optimum handgun range is 20-50 feet. Handguns in melee are dangerous, because people still seem to think they can still pull the trigger ...

The underlying problem is more fundamental and has less to do with a given topic than human nature itself, and a psychological property that despots have been exploiting since the earliest recorded human history. Whenever you have two competing principles, be it anything from a sporting event to pol...

Re: More Stuff

I think mandatory training wouldn't be a bad idea, if only so people wouldn't be so stupid with firearms, even if actual service was not compulsory. After all, the higher percentage of population is at least able to observe proper gun safety protocol, it would make a lot of gun-related accidents muc...

I said "homicide rate" - not "number of homicides". Think again. Wouldn't a comparison between gun-related crimes be a better metric? After all, not every homicide is performed with a firearm (and you'd be surprised just how few actually are), and guns are involved in many crime...

I can respect that a person is self-aware enough that he knows he cannot dispassionately debate a topic. Let's throw out one thing {though i know i shouldn't be doing this}, regarding one of the Second Amendment absolutists' favourite examples of "Gun laws don't work": Chicago (which has ...
