Re: Any artists aboard?

Oh, that sounds beautiful. I'll find a few pics of the pieces my dad made and post them up later as well. Please do! Wood is such a wonderful element to be working in... there's all sorts of beauty tucked away inside, and if you're very fortunate the wood will "talk to you" and let you un...

Re: Any artists aboard?

I turned a bowl last year from a piece of ornamental cherry tree wood I salvaged from a neighbor's yard... I'll post a few snapshots for you to look at. I turned it from greenwood, and as expected it flexed a lot when it dried... in its final form it's shaped like a traditional Egyptian papyrus boat...

Re: Doggie Smell 2012-12-31

Or how about waiting on the last book of a trilogy that has been "pending" for about fifteen years because the publisher wanted other things from the author, and then the author got too caught up in her other projects and personal life on top of that... Which would be? (My guess would be ...

Not quite a traditional sleep-over ... ... ending in not quite a traditional hang-over ... Considering the amount of after-the-crisis discussion that's queueing up in the Library stacks and waiting to be introduced, it might be a good idea to see if Mucho Mocha is willing to deliver coffee by the ga...

I have gone to the main Wapsi Square page, refreshed it several times, and the links still do not work for me. http://wapsisquare.com/news/monica-rabbit-pin-up/ http://wapsisquare.com/news/warrior-gal-print/ Both of those bring up a "Page Not Found. Click here to return to the home page or try ...

That link isn't working, nor are the Monica Rabbit or Warrior Gal links on the main Wapsi page. All kick back a Page Not Found screen. Something has gone amiss (or is out chasing amister).

Based on Shneekey's comments about RenFaire, it would also qualify as Costumer Support.

Re: Audiophile resurrection

Well, transistors and tubes are both gain devices. That is, they let a certain amount of current flow through their outputs, which is proportional to the signal (current or voltage) being fed into their inputs. The proportion varies from device to device... some have more gain than others, and they ...

Audiophile resurrection

I had some fun (of the "burn your hands a bit" variety) over the past two weekends, and as a result have brought a piece of classic audio gear back from near-death. A couple of members of our local amateur-radio e-comms group recently decided to sell their home and move to a retirement com...

Re: Deer in urban street - sad result.

Och... sorry to see that happen! A few months ago, my wife and were cycling out to a Sunday breakfast, and saw a female deer running along the local 4-lane expressway, looking desperately for a way to escape the road. We stopped, and a minute or so later she ran by us, no more than 6' away. Police a...

Re: Cute kitty, large cat

Just to make sure... you did get the memo advising cat owners that the use of Radio Shack freeze-and-dust-removal aerosol blowers is no longer the top-recommended method for dealing with kitty's annoying nasal-lint buildup? Shocking, I know, how the standards change from week to week, but what can w...

Does Bud even wear/need to wear a bra? (Brandi - yeah. Unless being a golem means you don't gotta...) I'd guess that for millennia-old physically-invulnerable clay golems, the gradual sagging of tissues as a result of gravity would be a non-issue, and bras would not be necessary on that count. The ...

Re: Xmas Eve 2012-12-24

You know, it's bad enough Christmas has become all about Santa and presents, and maybe I missed it, but when did Christmas become all about T&A? That aspect has been part of the picture since before any of us here were born, I dare say. Clara Bow was doing the "Skimpily dressed Santa's hel...

Jabberwonkey, now that you've shared it, how do we get rid of it! Kinda cute though... "How shall I ever get it out of my hair?" Edith wailed. "Shave your hair, my dear," the Doctor prescribed, "and then boil it in lye." (John Taine, "The Greatest Adventure")...

Holly. Prickly leaves. Having to put all those lights up among them. OK -- a night's sleep and a re-read (after coffee) delivers the clue. Lovely display, but harsh work to put it up! Could be worse... it's too cold there for them to have decided to decorate a manchineel. All those sparkley jewel-l...

Re: Trouble in Minnesota?

There may be a problem with the site main page HTML, possibly due to an ad insertion. The W3C validator says that there's an unclosed HTML comment block inside of a script tag. This seems to be causing at least some versions of IE to ignore part of the page contents. Firefox, Chrome, and Safari seem...

I use Firefox, currently 17.0.1, and things work fine for viewing Wapsi Square. Some of my add-ons had been getting in the way of websites using Disqus for comments, but that's the only problem I've had until a recent update. Now things are fine everywhere. But -- since Win7 updated recently, I sta...
