Re: Fan Art Post attempt...

Well, it posted ok, but the one on the right - I think it's supposed to be Castela - much more strongly reminds me of Willow, a character from the early conception of Twokinds that (so far) has never made it into that comic.

Do Not Disturb

The army of Westria lined the ridge to the north of the narrow valley. Knights in plate armor astride their horses, light cavalry and infantry in chain, archers in leather, and wizards in robes eyed the Nomi forces similarly arrayed to their south. This day might define the balance of power among th...

Hey, mind if I try to bring some sign of life to this place? A totally non-Wapsi story that I wrote elsewhere. I think you'll enjoy it...

The original inspiration is a misread book title...

Re: More Stuff

This country has several health care systems. The three that most resemble the more unified systems of certain other countries, one gets the worst results (but that's partially the fault of patients who, to a much greater than average extent, can't be bothered); another is among the least respected ...

And that post was just telling us low long the timeskip is.

The last post where something happened in the comic was July 20 2022.

Resonance with the greater masses of the sun and the earth is what keeps small stuff parked at L1. Actually, not quite. I believe that the five Lagrange points are pretty-much-equal stable solutions to the three-body problem in orbital mechanics... but the solar system is not a three-body problem. ...

Are you composing this directly in a web browser? Not recommended - too many ways to lose stuff. Use a word processor, or at least a text editor, and save the stuff (locally) often . (Have good, frequent, automatic backups too. Currently my writing gets backed up to an external drive at five-minute ...

Re: COMPUTER CRASH - new name - Fairportfan3

I use a free password manager that keeps an encrypted backup in the cloud.

And I have a rather misleading hint about the master password (to get into the password manager). What it means to me is not what it would mean to most other people.

Re: More Stuff

As far as holding the family together goes... I doubt it's me. If you're the last person to stop trying, then you probably deserve less of the blame for the disintegration than anyone else... but you'll still probably get most of the blame. I think I'm making more than either of my parents ever did...

Re: More Stuff

It is the unfortunate way of such family disintegrations that the last person to stop even trying to hold it together is usually the one whom everyone blames for it falling apart.

Re: We have until about Christmas before new material, Where's the portal to the coffeehouse?

The typical crock pot is NOT very suitable for sous-vide cooking because if you're lucky it has two heat settings, too-hot and who-knows. More likely it only has too-hot. Sous-vide appliances are absurdly expensive, or they were last time I looked. A cheap deep-fryer, though... the temperature contr...

Okay, a few notes for our young author 1) We were all young authors once. You're allowed to make mistakes - and we point them out so that hopefully over time you'll make fewer. (While we continue to occasionally make mistakes. When you're done learning, they'll bury you.) 2) On this forum (and most ...

Getting old sucks.

But most people prefer it to the alternative.

(We got back just a few days ago from taking my mother-in-law out of a nursing home... in an urn.)

Interesting! So, hermit, seal, and container, yes? Alchemy is also sometimes referred to as "the Hermetic art", or as one of the "Hermetic sciences" (along with magic and astrology). And my alchemist is deaf - sound doesn't get through to him. So the guy's a hermetically sealed ...

I won a (tiny) writing contest

Over on Scribophile. The prompt for the six-day contest was "hermetic" - interpretation left to the authors - and we were supposed to try for under 100 words and definitely stay under 200. My entry, 120 words written and edited in about 10 minutes, was probably the shortest of the seven su...

This town says "snow, what's that?". Cold tonight though: 44 degrees. Or maybe 43 depending on which forecaster you ask. (There's a reason I live in a motorhome. The area where we usually spend summers, the daytime highs are currently colder than this town's overnight lows. And there's thi...
