I'm still thinking unstoppable fae-killing machine that didn't get fully programmed before it left the lab but did get some programming, and the orphanage was trying to bypass the fae-killing parts of her programming when Kath adopted her.

Couldn't kill it, didn't want it made into a weapon against them, hardly counts as "good intentions". Wanted it socialized and happy, might count as "good intentions" had the two previous conditions not existed, but here it just is a sub-requirement of "not made into a weapo...

That is certainly what they most closely resemble, but I'm still trying to figure out why there would be a whole shelf of Miller Lite cans in a school cooler. Of course there are tales of heavy-drinking paranormals even as children, so maybe there are some that need the beer to survive?
