Pure osmium, coated in osmium/steel alloy, coated in titanium or a steel/titanium alloy for structural integrity. Full jacket, with extra-thick structural layer at the tip. Tapered tip. Extra long length of the slug itself. Osmium is the densest metal I could think of, and the extra long slug would...

Two weeks ago, my brother had a cardiac incident while visiting here, and the local hospital pumped him quite full of nitroglycerin before deciding on angioplasty. Afterward, I pointed out that the doctors were confident in their treatment. Otherwise, they'd have used C4. That cheered him up. :mrgre...

It's almost as much fun as "chemical free". Shortly after my ex was hired at the pit where we met, I noticed some product on her desk, prominently labeled "Contains no chemicals." At the time, it was the kind of place where we all passed notes about the copy we were proofreading...

That tractor may look mighty ancient today, but it was a big advance from the first model.

Nah. Why would you have rails in a meth lab? well it's OBVIOUSLY for the mine carts that are down there ferrying the various batches of Meth around the lab, from one process station to the next process station... i mean, really. would YOU want to the haul that stuff around by HAND... or have a CART...

Wouldn't hurt to keep your ears open for alternative possibilities, of course. "Wanted: well-seasoned curmudgeon to sit in bar eight hours a day composing dirty limericks so as to provide quaint atmosphere. Pay is $15/hour plus beer and pretzels." Maybe he could use an apprentice, survivi...

Maybe the wings are just for display, and she really flies via a personal antigrav field.

Insulation. Bat-like wings are massive thermal radiators. In cold weather, without a proper metabolism and abundant fuel, bat-like wings would be a major problem for thermal regulation. Insulation-only feathers on the wings could solve that problem. They can also help soften the sound of flapping. ...

I think most, if not all, modern farm tractors have a splined power takeoff shaft to run equipment. About the breakdown walking stick, by the way: Would you mount the ferrule assembly in the pieces and then turn down the shaft? Seems to me the pieces would match better that way than by cutting the t...

In my native county of northern Greater Appalachia, the coal mines traditionally provided the greatest number of nonfarm jobs. By the time I was growing up, the ski resorts had taken the lead. Now it's the prisons. My father often remarks that creating jobs for lowerclass white people by locking up ...
