Re: More Stuff

That Silky Gomboy does look like a damn nice, easy-packing saw.

All my gear regrets are from buying cheap crap that didn't work. I've never regretted buying anything that was up to the job, though it's always happier to get it at a good price.

What I like about xkcd is that when I don't get the joke--I know that the joke isn't the problem.

Thanks, Dave!

Kinda scruffy bear there.

Those are good puppies. They should get extra treats.

I am confident that Alkarii is using a ground cloth. 8-) Very much enjoying this thread. Way too long since I've done any camping. One thing I've found useful is to just have a couple of the thin bags used for vegetables (not the perforated ones, obviously) in any pack I take on a hike. Have used th...

Re: First dose of vaccine

I am pretty hard left-brained, apparently. The right hand and eye are quite dominant.

But I dislocated the right shoulder more than 25 years ago, and could not use the right arm for a while. Still keep cash and cards on the left and grab things from cabinets with the left hand because of that.

Re: Happy Now 2021-04-08

My parents moved to their permanent house when I was about 3-1/2, and my brother was about 3 months old. I remember some things from the house they rented before that, and definitely things that happened before my brother was born. I remember that the kitchen sink had a hand pump, and a neighbor's b...

Never used it in an emergency myself, but read a long time ago that a 1000 foot spool of dental floss can be really useful. Pretty good tensile strength for its weight, though easily abraded.

No need to pack it in the Montana bush country, of course.

The trouble with losing weight while sitting on your ass is that most of the weight you lose is muscle. Guess how I know that. And I have never in my life been even a little bit overweight, except the year my teen metabolism started to slow down and I hit peak lifetime weight at 19. (Then ...

But it seems no one who posts uses Twitter. Or (hope so for Pablo) no one who uses Twitter posts in the forums.

I'll look at Twitter sometimes, but have never and will not register.

Many of us have been there already, so you are not without company. And we all stand in the shadows of the old folks who went before. Wishing you peace and good weather.

I know from observation that microwaves are water soluble. Bookworm has been doing work on the Forum server and site lately, and it's possible he was doing some upgrades or other work on the main site as well. Or, it could be a bunch of the frozen bits in the Texas telecom wiring, finally melting and oozing out of the fibers. If you don't remember to unplu...

That sucks, Taz. Hope you can bounce back soon. I've been laid off or had jobs disappear out from under me more times than I could tell you offhand. I think this was the first big economic downturn when I didn't lose my job. And before that, I was expecting to be thrown overboard at the end of 2019,...

About the J&J--I'm glad to see the push for overcapacity now. We need to vaccinate the world, ASAP, and we could use some goodwill. Also, if this turns into a seasonal variant thing, like the flu, it will be a good investment.

Re: First dose of vaccine

Very happy to report that I got the notice to schedule an appointment this morning, and after several failed attempts (bugs in the site configuration, fixed within a few hours), I am scheduled for the first shot (Pfizer, I think) on Monday afternoon (March 15). That will be one year to the day since...
