I favor Boris as the name of the spider. There is even a theme song to go with it. Boris The Spider by The Who.

Re: Always Seems Worse 2014-09-22

I believe that Dietzel is more that "just" a dog. I think that Paul has given us hints as to how special Dietzel is through out the life of the strip. Whatever he truly is, Dietzel is Monica's companion guardian, of sorts, and may be Wapsi Square's version of Inuyasha.

Re: Not Permanent 2014-09-19

Dietzel doesn't necessarily need all his owner's info on his tag. He'd probably find some way to catch a taxi home if he ever got lost. All things considered, Dietzel is probably going to need some good old fashioned comfort food, as in pizza. Who knows, maybe the pizza delivery girl will give him ...

LW, The little girl in Bud's dream is reduced to ions, so I don't think that the dream girl is Bia. Now the dream may be caused by Bia, but I don't think that it is Bia. Please note that there is no sign of the glyph associated with Bia in the dream. Try looking at Shelly's memories of her mother. T...

Re: Not Permanent 2014-09-19

I was looking for the Crimson Mantis strip as well and discovered that in the Wapsi Timeline, Monica acquired Dietzel as a puppy back in 1994. That makes Dietzel roughly 20 years old!

Those that have speculated that Dietzel may have a supernatural component may well be right.

Re: Not Permanent 2014-09-19

Since time in the Wapsi-verse runs roughly at the same rate as in real live, Dietzel is getting up in years now. The Wikipedia article on Bull Terriers reports that "A UK breed survey puts their median lifespan at 10 years and their mean at 9 years (1 s.f., RSE = 13.87% 2 d. p.), with a good nu...

If I am seeing clearly then Dietzel did indeed shrink. In the earlier panels (both today and yesterday), Dietzel is able to look over the railing. In the final panel of today's comic Calista is hanging onto the same railing looking down at Dietzel who is some what diminished from his earlier stature...

Re: Did You Hear Something 2014-09-18

Not only is this Dietzel's first visit to the library, it appears to be his first encounter with a sphinx, in natural form. I believe that Shelly has always been in human form whenever she has been around Dietzel so as panel four shows this is quite the eye opener.
