Re: More Stuff

Actually, there are a few shop vacs in the workshop, but I have yet to see if they work... A shop vac, with an outboard cyclone separator, would be a good approach (the separator will dump most of the sawdust into a separate container, keeping it from reaching and clogging the shop-vac filter). I d...

Heart Attack On A Plate is generally known as Poutine. Hey! How dare you insult my "national" dish!!! :P   8-) I put my fingers down, and it came out. I've eaten it before. In Ottawa. Intellectually, I know it was a cat actively trying to commit suicide, *Is puzzled.....

Re: More Stuff

Heart Attack On A Plate is generally known as Poutine. I had a rough weekend. Friday evening, while I was working in the attic, one cat got up on a counter, then higher, knocked down a sealed box of rat poison, got it to the floor, tore the box open, and the package, and took a chunk out of one of t...

I'm dealing with the wife and kid being in Detroit to clean up after my FIL's death, trying to build a new server to move all the hosting to, and a variety of needy customers - as well as trying to get people to pay me :) Baseball bats are great for that last one, if you’re not too scrupulous. :P C...

Re: Anyone Want Some Grapefruit?

Orange tree is gone, and stump ground down. Grapefruit tree was trimmed back, and yard sprayed. Best of all, though, was the palm tree. It got shaved back to the trunk and the fronds were cut back. It looks frickin awesome . So, you're saying you had to _shave your palm_? What HAVE you been doing?

Re: More Stuff

Lots of divided highways in Texas. I grew up off of one of them. There's another north of Nashville heading for Kentucky. Amazing how with the enormous distance between the sides, an accident on one can STILL slow the other side down.

I'll take your word for it. I don't live in California.

Here, TXDoT sort of insists that the roads be even.

High speed to a dead end intersection, ran the red light, and kept going straight. Someone was either asleep or intosticated. Under the affluence of inkahol, or similar. But what did they use for a ramp? {I haven't watched the video yet} ================ Now i have watched it. Who was driving that ...

Re: A Passing

I understand some of the feeling. My FIL passed away at 4:30 AM on Good Friday, which left my wife (designated to take care of things) in a tizzy. a four day visit to him in the hospital became two weeks of heck.

Re: Schtupid Email Scams

I'm not quite sure, but I think the same is true with a d20. There's certain kinds of dice where that doesn't hold true, though. We used to have some six-sided dice where, if you picked the correct two of the four, you were guaranteed to always roll 7 or 11. On one of those two the opposite-sides t...

The "J" is putting up with inner-loop life in Houston the best she can. Her previous life at the Casa de Inundación was rather different. it's been a year since we moved and she has accepted her current lot in life- as long as rawhide chews are on hand. The area we have available for walk...

Got a call today - from myself! according to Caller ID. No message on the recording. I wonder why they think anybody is going to believe a call that is an obvious lie from the initial contact.... Sounds like luck of the draw. They try to match the first 6 digits to make you think “wow, that’s a loc...

What to do after installing any linux. Install ssh install vim-nox (which, stupidly enough, now requires _ruby_ of all things) dpkg-reconfigure dash, to put bash _back_ as the shell of choice install thunderbird, firefox, chrome remote desktop, anydesk install proftpd Copy over all settings from old...

Re: I've been enjoying Game of Thrones

E. E. "Doc" Smith's Subspace Safari was similar to that. It was originally written as a single book, and offered up for publication. There was a bunch of back and forth, and he started rewriting it as _two_ books - Subspace Explorers, and Subspace Encounters. He never finished them. Eventu...

Re: I've been enjoying Game of Thrones

15 years and the author dying, with the last book finished off by someone else, is a bit of a turn off. Conan, anybody? Not quite the same. That's more simply taking a series character and writing more with the character. The Wizard of Oz series was that way, as were Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and in ...

This is why Islam exists as a large scale religion. The Monophysite christians were abused by the Orthodox churge to the point that they pretty much migrated to Islam en-masse. That was almost all of the population of Egypt at the time. That's a large part of the reason why a small group of poorly-...
