Always liked that page and figured somebody somewhere must have arranged it. Surprised it was Merle--never heard of it before. But I'm impressed. Thanks!

Feels like Bugs Bunny setting up an aggressive dimbulb. But that's probably not it.

I think Pablo said awhile back that events in the strip (at least at that point) were occurring ~3 years ago.
Of course, there could have been another time jump anytime since then.

Vonnegut wrote Slaughterhouse 5 partly to deal with PTSD from Dresden, though he didn't characterize it as that. Not sure that he ever did really come to grips with it. I know my dad's buddies who went to Korea, the older they got, the more it showed how much it had fucked them up. (Dad was rejected...

The big cats are among humans' few natural predators. Which is part of our very strange relationship with cat species in general.

Re: Big-cat sighting
Never seen a live wildcat in North America, but it sounds more like a mountain lion/cougar/puma than a bobcat, unless Western bobcats are bigger than Eastern. I thought they were just slightly bigger than a very large housecat--which is still nothing to mess with. If it stops back again and asks abo...

One sunny day a few years ago, I smelled smoke while I was working. And then I noticed that a magnifying glass that had been standing in the pen jar for at least 5 years was trying to light up my desk.
It lives in a drawer now.

Re: Second Dose of Vaccine
When I got the second shot of Pfizer, they were asking people which side they usually sleep on, and they injected on the other side if you had a preference. Myself, that muscle didn't get as sore as it had the first time. Had some general muscle aches, lethargy, and feeling of cold for a few days, b...

Also, my mom, who was a champ with fabric and gardening, told me once that I'd never be sorry buying stuff by Fiskars, and their scissors, anyhow, are reasonably priced.

That Silky Gomboy does look like a damn nice, easy-packing saw.
All my gear regrets are from buying cheap crap that didn't work. I've never regretted buying anything that was up to the job, though it's always happier to get it at a good price.

What I like about xkcd is that when I don't get the joke--I know that the joke isn't the problem.
Thanks, Dave!

Kinda scruffy bear there.
Those are good puppies. They should get extra treats.

I am confident that Alkarii is using a ground cloth. 8-) Very much enjoying this thread. Way too long since I've done any camping. One thing I've found useful is to just have a couple of the thin bags used for vegetables (not the perforated ones, obviously) in any pack I take on a hike. Have used th...

I am pretty hard left-brained, apparently. The right hand and eye are quite dominant.
But I dislocated the right shoulder more than 25 years ago, and could not use the right arm for a while. Still keep cash and cards on the left and grab things from cabinets with the left hand because of that.

Re: Happy Now 2021-04-08
My parents moved to their permanent house when I was about 3-1/2, and my brother was about 3 months old. I remember some things from the house they rented before that, and definitely things that happened before my brother was born. I remember that the kitchen sink had a hand pump, and a neighbor's b...
