Re: More Stuff

And the Boca combination sound card/modem was a nightmare. {Boca was a company started by former IBM engineers - the same team who had been responsible for the PCjr...} I had my own nightmare with a Boca Ethernet card, years ago. I chose it because it used a very good Ethernet chip (AMD PCNet) whic...

Re: More Stuff

I've always heard it as 'Quehr-ee'. Interesting. I've always thought it that as being a British variant pronunciation... haven't heard it used in the U.S. as far as I can recall. However... I believe I recall that some of the Appalachian accents in American English are derived pretty directly from ...

Re: A Steal at $28K

Just last Sunday, when I filled up before driving to my dad's birthday brunch, a van filled up, next to my truck. A 73 VW van... Admittedly, the owner said it was costing her a fair bit, to keep it alive... I told her I knew the feeling (mine being a 1991 GMC Suburban...) Got rid of a 1970 VW van i...

Description sounds like they might have entirely replaced the suspension and drive train. The guys over at Doc's who rebuild old cars do that.

Yeah, I've been jammed up with work (technically working right now, actually :? ) and weekend crap with the ancestral property. Haven't looked in for a few days.

My condolences, Pablo. Did not check the board for a few days and am just seeing the news here now.

Sometimes the waiting is worse. Wishing comfort and peace to you and your family.

Re: Short Break 2019-05-17

My grandmother spent ten years dying inside her head until her body finally gave out at age 102. I know what it's like. My mom didn't last that long, but I was missing her while she was still here. We thought her anorexia and dislike of formerly palatable foods was a symptom of dementia. She went f...

Re: Weird Noises 2019-05-10

The FIAT 128 was a decent little car. There was nothing Sovet cost-cutting couldn't ruin. Remember once seeing the Yugo described (approximately) as a base-model Fiat assembled from factory-second parts by unskilled workers in poor light. Click and Clack about stroked out laughing at an unlucky cal...

The Yugo i ripped a door off made a similar but not-so-loud noise...
Q: For why has Yugo rear window electric defroster?

Good to see Jasper whatever thread. :D

Now, you want a bad joke?

Saw a thing just lately--with pictures--that dogs can ride the New York subways. If they fit in a bag!

Try convincing Jasper to ride the subway in a bag.

Re: Schtupid Email Scams

I knew opposite sides all equaled the same number. But I was thinking it was 6. That actually wouldn't work - what goes on the side opposite the 3? The numbers 1 to 6 total 21. There are three pairs of opposite sides on a cube, so if each pair is going to have the same total it must be 7. Quite log...

Well, they have so much information on it, at least it can be physically restored to an almost identical condition - and a whole lot faster than it was constructed initially. I haven't read any of the news reports yet - I'll wait a bit and see if they come up with how it happened. There was restora...

Does anyone else still scroll down on the main page to look for the big button link to the forums? It would seem that I'm still not used to its absence, as I scroll down almost every time. (Granted, if I start typing the word "forum" in my address bar, it suggests the forum's URL anyway...) I only ...

According to the portable blackboard outside of a café and drinking establishment along the bus route I work every day, it takes 139 glasses of wine to fill a bath tub... I can't help but think that can't be right, as it seems to me a bath tub would take a lot more liquid than that. Unless you're t...

I actually thought someone had put a shell on one of those Spyder trikes when I saw it, but this thing had four solid wheels. The story is intriguing behind it, but I wonder if the guy asked too much for it, and just decided to keep it? Strewth that is the ugliest thing I've seen with a license pla...

Cool! Hope you get fruit. If it bore fruit before, maybe the soaking will help.
