There was a video of a scientist who invented perpetual motion by putting peanut butter on the back of a cat, then dropping it.

Sounds about right!
The patent was awarded posthumously. The coroner remarked that he'd never seen so many claw marks per square centimeter.

Yes, this is a good example of why zipper-close purses and backpacks are a good idea, especially for the energetic.

A possible soundtrack for the stage version: P.D.Q.Bach's immyrtle classic To Curry Favor, Favor Curry.

("Immyrtle" because the recipe inexplicably omits the bay leaf)

On the good-news side of things, it appears as if remdesivir may be helpful:

Rats. A study from France reports that for patients who have been hospitalized with COVID-19 and who require oxygen, treatment with hydroxychloriquine doesn't seem to reduce the rate at which the patients get worse (requiring transfer to Intensive Care, or dying). "These results do not support the u...

In other news; I have the eldest Sister of mine who is a true New Yorker & we heard via a 'How Are You Doing?' ping that she was texting back from the ER w/ a fever and other symptoms.... and then Radio Silence. There was a day and a half of quiet nail-biting on the West Coast and the...

Things are looking VERY good so far for hydroxychloroquine+azithromycin. Both are long-approved medications with significant amounts in existence and significant production facilities already operating. Could you provide some citations to the tests and trials you've seen? I haven't yet seen any cit...

Re: More Stuff

It's definitely worth a try. Here in California, housing construction and the skilled building trades and the businesses which supply them are considered "essential". Neither the state nor our county seem to be making a distinction between "new construction" and "repair" and "upgrades and remodeling".

2) The '.1%' that people like to quote appears to ONLY be deaths directly related to the influenza virus. The real mortality index is because of viral pneumonia. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/season/flu-season-2017-2018.htm The death toll for at least 4 consecutive weeks was 10%. not 1%, not .1%. 1...

A lot of news shouting has been without context, so here's some numbers for you: The death rate from the Swine Flu/ H1N1 was about 2%. Available numbers from the current Cornoavirus is about 2-3% The "regular" flu death rate is in the 1-2% range. I think your third line has figures that have skippe...

Re: Pi Day is coming - I just might take the plunge

The Pi and its ilk can be a great deal of fun, and/or frustration. I've done a couple of projects so far: a Pi 2 (I think it was) as a streaming music player for my bedroom system, and a Pi-like board called a La Frite which runs some SDR software for coherent-SDR direction finding. The biggest prac...
