Last post/tweet I remember said end of September for new strips and today's the 18th, so maybe the light at the end of the tunnel looks a little closer. :D
Paul said that the strip would return on the 28th.

Today is the 18th.

Ten.

Re: More Stuff

Congrats on your new position at DHL! Currently they seem to be just about the only practical way to get shipments from overseas, so I imagine they're quite busy.

Re: Cleaning vinyl

Yeah, it's true that the bulk of the market has moved in the direction of "AV" amplifiers... 5 or 7 channels, lots of A/V inputs but no phono section, and (unfortunately) often not capable of driving 4-ohm speakers. At the big-box stores that's probably all you're going to find. There are still some...

Cleaning vinyl

A few years ago I experimented enough to be able to create a modern "available-ingredients" version of a classic record-cleaning system: the "film peel" originally developed by some smart guys in BBS's sound-archive department. A slightly-modified version of the BBC formula was popularized by Reg Wi...

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

One bit of good news recently, was a study which suggests that giving COVID-19 patients a good solid dose of a specific Vitamin D metabolite may be quite helpful. Of those patients who were hospitalized, those given this Vitamin D metabolite were much less likely to need to be taken into Intensive C...

Alkylbenzenes, eh?

If that detector needs a theme song, I nominate "She'll Be Cumene 'Round The Mountain".

The neutrinos which were detected using the LArTPC systems, no longer exist. They are shattered and dead. They argon to meet their maker.

Re: More Stuff

In particle physics, every experiment for the past 10 or 12 decades has proven that they need a bigger accelerator. I think THAT theory is well-supported by now... It's actually a bit more complicated than that. Researchers have been working with a big neutrino "telescope" called IceCube ...

Their music's OK, I guess, but I find it an odd business decision to include a softly spoken "PremiumBeat.com" every so often, on their tracks... :P
Some would call that a churlish peasant trick... what you'd expect from a "royalty-free" link I suppose.

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

One thing that bothers me about the "Number of Cases" type reporting is the (lack of) definition for a "Case". Agreed - it would be better if the published reports were specific. The CDC does have some recommendations, but they acknowledge that different states and counties are reporting based on t...

I still have ties to three hospitals in this area- to reveal my sources is a major potential HIPPA violation with several names on it. HIPPA is about giving patients control of their personal health information, and forbidding distribution and use of that information without the patient's authoriza...

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

I have found out that a LARGE number of "COVID" infections are being treated with Erythromycin- an anti-biotic, that has no effect on a virus. Seems that a LARGE number of people who are wearing masks for the first time don't understand that if you DON'T change or wash the damn thing every two hour...

I'm beginning to think that the people portrayed in Paul's eBay pinup drawings are not who we think they are. They're not the Wapsi Square characters at all. They are, instead, those characters' analogs from an alternative, parallel world-line... perhaps not the same one that Dustin and Daylla-2 com...

This looks very promising: a targeted antiviral you could take as a once-a-day inhaler dose, acting as both a prophylactic against infection and as a treatment if you're already infected. https://www.ucsf.edu/news/2020/08/418241/aeronabs-promise-powerful-inhalable-protection-against-covid-19 It woul...

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

You know that about half the regular gang here is 65 or over, right? Mere 40% chance of premature horrid death from a virus as contagious as the common cold? Why would that worry anyone ? There also seems to be an overly-simplistic assumption in much of the the "oh, the young have a low dea...

Re: British cider strongbow

Concentrating cider by freezing is traditional, but I've heard that it's risky because it also concentrates the congeners that are discarded with the heads and tails in distillation. Generally speaking, Congeners in apple Cider are not near as concentrated as in red wine or rum- and they significan...

I forgot all about Tina, but did she even have any prospective partners? As far as canon goes: one of the characters (Monica or Shelly I think) asked her about that at one point. Tina said that the whole idea of having sex made her uncomfortable, given her nature as a coven of demons inhabiting-and...
