Sounds sort of like the Multiverse/Hell's Gate series by David Weber and Linda Evans . . .

Re: Tales from the Tabletop

Many years ago (2nd edition, IIRC) I was in a campaign where the DM was trying to kill one of the characters without killing the others, and without resorting to "Rock falls, Character dies" . . . and finally managed it. Naturally the rest of the party had the character resurrected, since h...

Re: More Stuff

I had a large western spruce hit my house a couple of years ago . . . the top three-quarters of it, anyway. Did no detectable damage, luckily. Apparently the butt of the broken-off section hit the ground, then it slowly fell over on the house . . . and went through two smaller trees on the way. the n...

Re: Castela's kitty?

That's the title I used when I sent it to friends, but here it has to be Castela's kitty.

If I'd posted it on El Goonish Shive, it would have been Box's kitty.

I haven't had Red Rose in many years . . . it used to be my late mother's preferred tea.

My taste in Oolong and pu-erh is plebeian . . . I prefer the inexpensive stuff.

Looks to me like the car might be a BMW or Mercedes . . . not a very new one, either.

In the machine shop we used to use an old crackpot for melting the Plasti-Coat we coated end mills and special cutters with for storage . . . dip the tooling, pull it out, let it cool and there's a layer of oily plastic on the tool, which protected both the edge on the tool, and protected the finger...

The first spelling of Clyde is given as Clide. Tyops are a pain.

Otherwise a promising start.

Diamonds are also very useful for core-drilling in rock . . . largish ballas stones are especially good, thought they're so tough to cut that they aren't much use for gems. they're also pretty ra...
