Re: Character Index

The old wapsi index page is offline now because something sucked down twice my monthly data transfer limit from it in a very short period on 17 March 2022.

(Server records seem to indicate the problem was a python script from somewhere in the USA.)

With regret...

I seem to be a bit over-committed in my spare time projects, so I'm stopping indexing Wapsi Square today.

The data files are on GitHub and will be up-to-date later today. If anyone wants to pick up the ball I'll be happy to help get you going, link to your site or whatever.

Re: Character Index

Update: the Wapsi Square index page currently covers 3534 pages of the main comic, with 1288 tags of people, places and things for your search and selection pleasure. After a bit of thought the seelie / unseelie court point is well argued, but still speculative so I've left that out until confirmed ...

Re: Character Index

I've found a tidbit to add to Calista's entry. The terms 'Seelie' and 'Unseelie' refer to the two fey courts; summer and winter (respectively). Since Cricket was talking about the Unseelie clan fey as though they were rivals, I think it's safe to say that she's a princess of the Court of Summer. Th...

. . . Monica's boss was smitten instantly. And, unbeknownst to him, had sex with a very powerful sphinx ... and lived. Not so much as an earlobe bitten off in the heat of passion. Probably really enjoyed it even. To have had that distinction and never know it would be a bummer though. Don't know ab...

Re: Hold Fast 2016-04-04

Visited the Elissa in Galveston this weekend. They were training crew on the ropes, maneuvering sails and furling. So lots of fiddly bits to get messed up with high shot. One thing I just noted about films like Master & Commander, during the scenes when the ships are closing for battle, you nev...

Re: Hold Fast 2016-04-04

Re firing on the up-roll: They might have been aiming at the mast in the hopes of disabling the enemy ship. De-masting a foe is an elegant way to win a battle. Didn't ships occasionally fire a charge of "chain shot" for this purpose? A length of steel chain flying at high speeds might tak...

Re: Hold Fast 2016-04-04

…snippage… except that you want to fire on the DOWNROLL, as then a water hit will still bounce into the target- There's more room for error on an uproll shot. Firing on the downroll risks firing down into the sea if the gunner is slow or the gun itself hangs fire slightly. Firing on the uproll help...

Re: Hold Fast 2016-04-04

I think someone has been watching Master & Commander . Part of Shelly’s dialogue is about 9 minutes into the film, during the first battle with the Acheron: Capt Jack Aubrey: "Run out the starboard battery. Mr Allen, come up on the wind. Lay me alongside at pistol-shot." Also: one of t...

I'm a bit on the torn side... As a Patreon supporter, I get some of the "extra" stuff that Pablo puts out there for those of us who put our money where our mouth is about the strip. But... do I count what happens in those "additional" strips as canon? Does The Artist think they ...

I realised I have no critical clocks that require manual intervention, any more. All the important ones update automatically, whether from the 'net or radio time sync signals. The cooker and microwave are entirely offline, but I only look at those for the minutes – over breakfast, going out of the d...
