Re: More Stuff

Well, they have so much information on it, at least it can be physically restored to an almost identical condition - and a whole lot faster than it was constructed initially. I haven't read any of the news reports yet - I'll wait a bit and see if they come up with how it happened. There was restora...

Re: More Stuff

Does anyone else still scroll down on the main page to look for the big button link to the forums? It would seem that I'm still not used to its absence, as I scroll down almost every time. (Granted, if I start typing the word "forum" in my address bar, it suggests the forum's URL anyway...) I only ...

Re: More Stuff

According to the portable blackboard outside of a café and drinking establishment along the bus route I work every day, it takes 139 glasses of wine to fill a bath tub... I can't help but think that can't be right, as it seems to me a bath tub would take a lot more liquid than that. Unless you're t...

I remember a time when Popeye was a sailor, man.
Ya wouldn't think he was a cowboy. 8-)

But then there's this one:

"What time do y'all go to church?"
"Hell, we don't go to Church. We go to Popeyes!" :D

Re: More Stuff

I actually thought someone had put a shell on one of those Spyder trikes when I saw it, but this thing had four solid wheels. The story is intriguing behind it, but I wonder if the guy asked too much for it, and just decided to keep it? Strewth that is the ugliest thing I've seen with a license pla...

Cool! Hope you get fruit. If it bore fruit before, maybe the soaking will help.

Re: More Stuff

About the wire: Long time back, I heard a discussion about the value of magic wire on the local public radio station. Format then was mainly classical music. The station engineer said he used plain old zipcord, like for extension cords, for speaker wire. Low cost and plenty of conductance.

Ok, yeah... I think so. Thanks. It may come as a bit of a surprise to some folks due to the character I write in the fanfic, but I truly only know enough about computers to break them in interesting ways and to do a better job at bullshitting about knowing about them than the average joe :P I've be...

Re: Which Side Should You Tie Your Dirndl?

Ah, vowels... Some don't know how the Great Plains were populated by European immigrants. There were companies which sent recruiters to various places to advertise the opportunities, and they were tailored to match regions. That's why a lot of Swedes and Norwegians wound up in Minnesota, etc. Accor...

Re: New Horizons for New Years!

I'm not so sure; Antarctica is still at the bottom of an ocean of air, it's hard to live there for the staff, and I wonder how much of the time would the sky be obscured by clouds? If we are going to go big, lets set up something on the Moon's Far Side. You still have to ship in stuff, but if given...

Re: Was the Site Down, Tuesday Eve? (11Nov2018)

Good lord. Those urban Texas roads sound worse than Pennsylvania highways. And my entire family is accursed to the gods of vulcanized rubber. (Leading theory is that some ancestor told Charlie Goodyear a really bad joke.) Anyhow, in my native county in Northern Greater Appalachia, they do have four ...

I've known bottle jacks that failed because they didn't hold pressure, but none that exploded. Limited experience, I guess. Observationally, all the younger guys who work on cars in the streets around here use the little floor jacks. I used to raise the vehicle with whatever I could find t...
