Re: More Stuff

I'm dealing with a flea infestation myself. Now that the cats have seresto collars, the fleas are dropping off and dying, but they're targeting me. I have bites all around my ankles. (not bed bugs, because they're _only_ my ankles. Basically, where the things can get through my socks to the skin. B...

Re: Eeevill Overlord and Minion

You know, I never got around to actually seeing 'Cats', but I might just need to make the time... A shame... it looks as if the Broadway company was doing a revival of Cats in Sacramento earlier this year, but the run ended in April. Although... I did hear that there a small community-theater group...

Re: A Steal at $28K

Yeah, extra tabs just for the LineageOS stuff; I've known about converting surplus cell phones into wifi TV Remote Controls (well, Media PC Remote Controls,,,), but I'm liking the idea of changing the OS on the cell phone in my pocket... I'm now running LineageOS on the different Android devices......

What's the hazard with borax? Both boric acid and borax are toxic (the former is moreso). Ingestion of a few grams of borax can be enough to make a child very ill. It can have both acute and chronic effects on the health of humans and animals. Will the DE work in conjunction with the fogger? I may ...

Re: More Stuff

Now, I just have to make sure to fully master the part, so as to not embarrass myself nor slow things down for the group. I'm picking up the music score on Monday, and I was sent a link to a website that has MIDI files of the various parts, to help people in learning them. This is great... congrats...

Re: Anyone Want Some Grapefruit?

That bucket is only about half of the fruit on the tree. And very little of it is edible. ... My other issue is all the weed that are still around the tree. I am learning to HATE spurge. Such a tale of woe is strong evidence that the tree's species was misidentified. It is probably a gripefruit. Th...

Re: More Stuff

The system is turned back on, warms up, and crackles, pops, and smokes to a noisy electrical death. "OK - now you know which parts were failing. Fix those." "But that's a priceless Steinway!" (the hapless onlooker) "Not any more." (Inspector Clouseau) or, in electronics boat-anchor-nerd terms, "Ok,...

Re: More Stuff

Don't blame Boca. That's a habit that goes all the way back to Madman Muntz (look him up on Google). He used to start cutting components off of boards until the item stopped working, then said something like "I guess we'd better put that back." Antec does it, motherboard manufacturers do it. It's R...

Re: Schtupid Email Scams

In wanting to impress, they went too far and shot themselves in the foot. They don't have to impress or convince everyone that they spam. If they manage to convince (or panic) even 1 in 1000 of the people whose email addresses they have harvested (and pretend to have hacked) they can probably make ...

And look at what Anonymous sent me: ... Yeah, I've gotten plenty of those, sent to about half-a-dozen ID variants that I had used to sign up at different web sites (e g. tvtropes). I use a different email address for each sign-up so I can tell when a site "leaks" my credentials. None of these are m...

I've always heard it as 'Quehr-ee'. Interesting. I've always thought it that as being a British variant pronunciation... haven't heard it used in the U.S. as far as I can recall. However... I believe I recall that some of the Appalachian accents in American English are derived pretty directly from ...

Sic Transit Gloria Mad

Sad, bad... Mad Magazine is effectively shutting down.

They're stopping publication of most new material and going off of the news-stands and magazine racks; some limited publication will continue through comic books.

Potrzebie.

And the Boca combination sound card/modem was a nightmare. {Boca was a company started by former IBM engineers - the same team who had been responsible for the PCjr...} I had my own nightmare with a Boca Ethernet card, years ago. Why is it that those videos about the creepiest Wikipedia pages never include that article in their lists? That's something I wouldn't want to be anywhere near. And by near, I mean within a few dozen miles. I don't personally find the idea of corium to be creepy. Downright scary, yes. It took a lot...

Um.. Query and Very _do_ rhyme, unless you're from Glasgow or a Geordie. I've always heard it as "kwee-ry" (which doesn't theme with "veh-ry"). I'm a Philadelphian by birth, a Rochesterian (upstate New York) during college, and a Californian thereafter. https://www.macmillandictionary.com/us/pronun...
