THIS COMIC RAISES A GRAVE QUESTION!

... does Digit like soft shell or hard shell?
She definitely likes them crunchy.

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

Things are looking VERY good so far for hydroxychloroquine+azithromycin. Both are long-approved medications with significant amounts in existence and significant production facilities already operating. Could you provide some citations to the tests and trials you've seen? I haven't yet seen any cit...

Re: More Stuff

It's definitely worth a try. Here in California, housing construction and the skilled building trades and the businesses which supply them are considered "essential". Neither the state nor our county seem to be making a distinction between "new construction" and "repair" and "upgrades and remodeling".

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

2) The '.1%' that people like to quote appears to ONLY be deaths directly related to the influenza virus. The real mortality index is because of viral pneumonia. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/season/flu-season-2017-2018.htm The death toll for at least 4 consecutive weeks was 10%. not 1%, not .1%. 1...

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

Well, they just put my whole area of California under a 3-week "shelter in place" order, starting at midnight tonight. Everybody except for those working in essential businesses (food stores, medicine, banks, gas stations) is to stay at home; non-essential business are required to close. Restaurants...

Indeed. Much like after 9/11. Also similar to what happened after HIV was identified.

Stay Safe 2020-03-16

On hiatus for a week.

Would it be safe to re-activate the (virtual) Wapsi Square Clubhouse? or has that blasted coffee-maker become sentient and declared war on all biological beings?

True, but it's a bit risky to deal with it. Attitude issues.

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

A lot of news shouting has been without context, so here's some numbers for you: The death rate from the Swine Flu/ H1N1 was about 2%. Available numbers from the current Cornoavirus is about 2-3% The "regular" flu death rate is in the 1-2% range. I think your third line has figures that have skippe...

And we knew both of those things last week, and last month, and a year ago. That much, at least, hasn't changed.

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

It reminds me more than a little of what I've read of life in the US during the big polio outbreaks, back in the 1950s... or (common example) during the Spanish Flu pandemic about a century ago. My brother and my sister-in-law are over in China (she's CEO of a joint venture over there). Her comments...

Re: Pi Day is coming - I just might take the plunge

The Pi and its ilk can be a great deal of fun, and/or frustration. I've done a couple of projects so far: a Pi 2 (I think it was) as a streaming music player for my bedroom system, and a Pi-like board called a La Frite which runs some SDR software for coherent-SDR direction finding. The biggest prac...

Re: Ice Cream Break 2020-03-09

Digit is doing her Kali impression? Or Saraswati, perhaps. Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge, music, art, wisdom, learning, and communication... and a lot of this lines up will with what we know about Digit. The goddess Lakshmi also has four arms, but Wapsi Square had already had a character of...

Green sauce is good sauce.

(and the green sauce from Taqueria La Bamba in Mountain View is much better than just good... we buy it by the quart when they have extra to sell, freeze portions, and enjoy it for weeks)

Dammit, spiders aren't supposed to be sexy. Other spiders would disagree with you, I believe. By their standards, any spider who can weave a web and catch large insects is very sexy indeed. Beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the bee-holder. (Dave drops a poster of Digit captioned "She's A Real H...
