It would be nice if adults acted like adults, except when we need to be grown-up kids. :ugeek:
Yes, there's a lot to be said for the idea of taking responsibility.

Even if it is, at times, taking responsibility for irresponsibility.

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

My understanding is that the world is full of coronaviruses--they cause a lot of colds and similar mild unpleasant illness--but this is only the third one known to have played this kind of hell in humans. And the second, MERS, was at least as nasty, but European health response lucked out and by ac...

I dunno. It sounds as if he ignored (and thus failed to teach) one of the essential bits of Fatherly Advice.

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

Latest word, from an on-going study in the UK, is that the antibodies don't last - 6% of the people tested June showed antibodies, but the latest tests show only 3.4% {i think that's the umber - something on that close order. This suggests that "herd immunity" may be not a thing that's gonna happen...

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

But really, it's a logical question, no? If they tell us to wear masks if we can't be two meters apart, then if follows that if we have our masks on, we are not obligated to be two meters apart, since that's why we are wearing the masks to begin with (to protect us and the others) But if you tell u...

So, she's not only fuzzy on spatial orientation, but also on temporal. "Before I get home" and "after I get home" seem to have become a bit confoozed.

People contract and die from the flu, traffic accidents, house fires, bathtub falls, and snake bites. How does this latest plague upon us compare? Not discussed. The numbers are out there. They are not hard to find. https://usafacts.org/articles/top-causes-death-united-states-heart-disease-cancer-a...

I'm trying to remember that joke about the vegetarian vampire.... There's a great Feghoot about that... a vampire on a distant planet where plants and animals have reversed roles (the plants are mobile and intelligent, the animals are sessile). The vampire was a fearsome sap-sucker, of course... ma...

Ok, so she apparently didn't teleport down to the boiler room.

She climbed. Out the window.

She needs more than a Care Buddy... she needs a full-time keeper.

And since that day, on full moons you have to shave more frequently, and have a stronger than usual urge to eat pecans or climb trees? Could be worse. Consider the plight of that poor English fellow traveling in northern Romania who was bitten by a werewolf and by a squirrel, on a hunting trip into...

Back to Weddings- we have located Annie's ex- I will have him served with papers of divorce. Then Annie and I can legally wed. Huzzah! Excellent news! Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

All I can say is that from the start, I never liked the media coverage of this pandemic, and I think the lockdowns are a bad idea to keep going on for a long time. (What happened to "two weeks, to flatten the curve"?) There have been areas which have used short, strict lockdowns quite successfully,...

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

I'd like to see a graph that would not only includes "cases", but hospitalization, critical care hospitalization, and deaths. But I know that won't happen. You may not see a fully-fleshed-out graph for whole countries or even states/provinces, because not everybody reports complete data like this, ...

Re: March 12, 2020 (aka COVID-19 thread)

Indeed. The whole situation is suffering a bad case of GIGO: Garbage In, Garbage Out. A lack of actual journalism (who what where why when, etc) is affecting the whole debate. For example, after the lock down period expired in places, the hospitals filled up. "Oh Dear!" screamed headlines. Not ment...

I knew an Airedale who insisted that the $18 hunk of Stilton had leaped from the table and made a dash for the door. So obviously, it was his duty to stop it. He did feel bad about barfing it all over the rug afterward. But who could have foreseen that? Certainly no Airedale. That, also, was...

Well, now we know where the Band-Aid comes from... Probably from a large box of them in the medicine cabinet in Briar's home... but that's really not much of a surprise. We also know why the Band-Aid is there... and based on what we've learned about Briar so far I don't think that comes as much of ...
